While we are all starting to see some semblance of a more normal year, we are excited to know summer is right around the corner, and that it’s almost time for our annual Summer Reading program. This year our theme is “Tales and Tails” and we’re purrfectly ecstatic to get kids reading!
Studies show that kids who don’t read during the summer break can fall victim to the “summer slide,” dropping critical reading levels. Summer programs like ours keep kids reading during the summer to maintain or even increase their reading levels, so they can return to school in the fall ready to learn. This year, it will be especially important as many kids and teens may not have had a normal school year. In previous years, about 1,600 kids and 350 teens signed up for our Summer Reading program. Our community has always been enthusiastic about summer reading; all summer long we see large crowds in and out of our building. Last year was different, of course, but we are still strongly committed to engaging our patrons in our summer reading program. Even though we know this summer may still look a little different than normal, we still love this time of year, where we can share the importance of reading for pleasure with kids, teens, and their families. And we want you to be a part of that, too!
This year, we are again asking for donations if you are able to give. We have always said we believe a partnership with the library benefits not only our community but your business as well. And we know a partnership with you is also beneficial to the library. Many of you have faithfully sponsored the program for years through donations of gift certificates, coupons, products, and monetary gifts. We speak for the library and the community when we say we’re extremely grateful! So, what does it look like this year? Check out all the options, laid out on the next page.
As always, in return for your support of the library, we’ll promote your generosity in the following ways:
• Advertisement in our weekly e-newsletter (reaching over 14,000 email addresses)
• Logo on our Summer Reading web page
• We’ll “like” your business on our Facebook page
• Logo featured on our “thank you” window in the children’s area
• Special invitation to join our Summer Reading Kickoff on Monday, June 7th.
If you’d like to be a part of this community outreach opportunity, please email Robbi at rcaldwell@bburglibrary.net. We look forward to working with you!
